First of all, I hate carnival, but I love Carnival in Venice. Now you will think, how does this fit together? Well, easily. Especially in Germany Carnival means more or less cheap, short satin costumes, loud music, drunk people and more or less funny jokes. It has no style, no flair, no esprit.
The Venice Carnival on the other hand is about unique, grandiose costumes which fit the scenery of the city. To me wandering around in Venice with my costume is the only way to feel how it might have been during the time of Casanova.
Anyway, I am also not going to Venice in February just for the Carnival. I combine a personal event with a nice holiday when the dates are matching.
